Here is the Double Cluster in Perseus. Full size image and exposure / processing details are at:

http://jthommes.com/Astro/DoubleCluster.htm
(be sure to click the image for full size)

I have shot this object a couple of times, they can be seen here:

I think the only change over the previous (Feb'05) image is a more accurate color.

Jim,
Your colors really shine through, which seems to be that much more critical in bringing out the beauty of an open cluster (and why I shy away from them!). I'd love more info on your process as you really have a way with stars.

Thanks everyone for your comments on the Double Cluster image.

Larry,
So one of the things I think helps with star colors is to take shorter RGB exposures - particularly for those of us with anti-blooming CCDs. Bright stars whose color data is at the top of the dynamic range tend to come out white. Shorter RGBs lower the ADUs on the bright stars and lets the color come through. Of course, then its hard to get the low surface brightness colors in nebulas. So its a bit of a balancing act with nebulas and galaxies, but with star clusters youa can go hog wild and shorten those RGBs.

My 2 cents worth.
