Trump calls for election to be delayed.

After previously refusing to commit to accepting the result of the election if he loses, now trump is calling for the election to be delayed.  He stated on twitter "Delay the election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???".

So he is saying that it will be unsafe for people to vote in person in November, presumably because of the virus, but things are safe enough for schools to reopen now?

I wonder if he is really more concerned about losing the election and is trying to find excuses not to accept the result? Hopefully someone will inform him that he does not have the power to delay the election.

On the other hand, it could just be an attempt to deflect attention away from the truly dismal second-quarter economic numbers just released.

"Trump should be impeached" says co-founder of the Federalist Society

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/30/opinion/trump-delay-election-coronavirus.html

Buh-Bye President Dumbass:

"I have voted Republican in every presidential election since 1980, including voting for Donald Trump in 2016. I wrote op-eds and a law review article protesting what I believe was an unconstitutional investigation by Robert Mueller. I also wrote an op-ed opposing President Trump’s impeachment.

But I am frankly appalled by the president’s recent tweet seeking to postpone the November election. Until recently, I had taken as political hyperbole the Democrats’ assertion that President Trump is a fascist. But this latest tweet is fascistic and is itself grounds for the president’s immediate impeachment again by the House of Representatives and his removal from office by the Senate.

Here is what President Trump tweeted:

With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 30, 2020

The nation has faced grave challenges before, just as it does today with the spread of the coronavirus. But it has never canceled or delayed a presidential election. Not in 1864, when President Abraham Lincoln was expected to lose and the South looked as if it might defeat the North. Not in 1932 in the depths of the Great Depression. Not in 1944 during World War II.

So we certainly should not even consider canceling this fall’s election because of the president’s concern about mail-in voting, which is likely to increase because of fears about Covid-19. It is up to each of the 50 states whether to allow universal mail-in voting and Article II of the Constitution explicitly gives the states total power over the selection of presidential electors.

Election Day was fixed by a federal law passed in 1845, and the Constitution itself in the 20th Amendment specifies that the newly elected Congress meet at noon on Jan. 3, 2021, and that the terms of the president and vice president end at noon on Jan. 20, 2021. If no newly elected president is available, the speaker of the House of Representatives becomes acting president.

President Trump needs to be told by every Republican in Congress that he cannot postpone the federal election. Doing so would be illegal, unconstitutional and without precedent in American history. Anyone who says otherwise should never be elected to Congress again."

thats the one thing about Trump that irks me.....well the main thing. He feeds the opposition ammunition far to much.....admittedly its mostly stuff that they twist into something else or use out of context so its not all on him but damn.....How hard is it to think "how will they twist this like a pretzel before I hit send?" lol

In this case it WAS a question not a statement.....which of course as the title of this topic shows the opposition twisted and ran with LOL

Given the follow up post he made I agree on this one.....he was definitely baiting them and even as evidenced here they took it, hook, line and sinker LOL

Though I am not sure in this case it was wise.....the media is going to have a field day with it......

Maybe you ought to be asking that of Trump:
"Earlier on Thursday, Trump tweeted, "With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???"
CNN has previously fact checked claims by Trump that there is a distinction between mail-in voting and absentee voting -- and experts say those voting systems are essentially the same thing. There is also no widespread fraud in US elections."
So, first Trump yet again makes another false statement without evidence to back it up that leads into the "delay the election until..." which Republicans as well as Democrats and other similarly rational people react to an irrational and unfounded construct tweeted by Trump...

So is the Wall Street Journal editorial board:

"This is not to suggest that the November election will be “rigged,” as Mr. Trump asserts. If he believes that, he should reconsider his participation and let someone run who isn’t looking for an excuse to blame for defeat."

If he is doing it on purpose, then he is indeed the dumbest man on the planet. This single tweet has done more to lose him hard-core Republican support than almost any other thing he has done. By the way, do you know who was mocked by conservatives for suggesting that Trump would try to delay the election? Joe Biden, that's who. It's also laughable to claim it was just a question or he was only joking given Pompeo's recent statements and his refusal to say Trump doesn't have the power to delay the election. I'll even predict this will not be the last time Trump floats this kind of trial balloon.

Since saint richie with his superior intellect and glorious education doesn't seem to know how to keep up with trump news, here is just one news item I picked at random showing trump refusing to commit to accepting the election results if he loses.

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/trump-refuses-to-commit-to-accepting-election-results-if-he-loses-2020-07-19

“I have to see. Look ... I have to see,” Trump told moderator Chris Wallace during a wide-ranging interview on “Fox News Sunday.” “No, I’m not going to just say yes. I’m not going to say no, and I didn’t last time either.”
