I have recently taken shipment of an ASA N12 f/3.8 astrograph and this image is the first light LRGB. I decided on a globular cluster to see sharpness, field correction and depth of light grasp. I've never shot M3 and it happened to be handy.

Here is a link to what the telescope looks like:

It is a carbon fiber OTA with a 3" Wynne corrector. It seems to handle the STL11k quite well. Its central obstruction is a little larger than I would like (39%), but it is still smaller than most RC's. The focuser is a JMI NGF-X 3". BTW, that is not a corrector plate on the front of the scope -- it's the end cap!

I am optimistic with this first light LRGB.

Best,

Tom

Hi Tom, It looks tack-sharp to me, with a nice flat field. I would think you are smiling ear-to-ear right now! smile

Congrats Tom.

M3 looks like a really nice result. Nice stars. Is it the full frame of the STL11K or a crop? Looks good to the corners.

Wow Tom,

That new scope really looks like a winner! Nice color, sharp image, nice flat field - was there anything else you were hoping for?

Great first image!

Wow! that looks great.Nice and flat all the way to the corners.
With that FOV and your excellent processing it has a very 3d effect.

Great first light,

Jason

Tom,

Why, that's simply mahvelous, dahling! wink

Nice scope, too! Is the Wynne corrector integral to the scope's design, or was it an additional option? I'm hoping it's the former!

I've seen some fine images from this scope. From the looks of your first light image, I'm guessing we'll be seeing much the same from you.
I'm curious about the rings that are holding your Borg. Are those commercially available? The whole mounting system for your Borg looks to be extremely solid. I'd like to turn my MiniBorg into a guider if I could mount it as solidly as you have done.
